If you are going to be building a motor for boost when it is an na car from the factory and revs higher it is my opinion that it would be ridiculous not to at least put cams made for the application in the head. Clay was right about the rev range but, he left out the portion about how the air is now under pressure and the stock cams are for na. Porting would be great but probably not necessary. Doesn't matter what block you have, the cams go in the head. I wouldn't get Honda cams unless you are really cheaping out on the build. I guess it might be possilble that they would be better than what you have in it now but, a set of cams made for a turbo s2000 couldnt be that pricey and would be MUCH better. ($500-$800)
It would be a different car with the cams after the build, proably much faster than if you build it with stock cams.
Your tires will really laugh at you after all this!

Well here is the update so far:

AP2 block machined to the AP1 Head
Forged rods & valves
k-Pro Hondata system
1000cc Fuel injectors
High Pressure Fuel pump
Turbo spec Cams
Custom heat shielding for computer components and fuse boxes (will eliminate the power steering issue we had)
Ceramic coating on exhaust manifold
A whole bunch of sensors to make the hondata work
Solenoid for computer monitored boost control on the wastegate
in-line oil cooler for turbo

We already have a 500HP clutch and flywheel so that shouldnt be an issue.

The car will be tuned over spring break and we will be able to hold 2 tunes on the onboard computer and will have additional tunes for other applications. The two tunes that we will be running in the car are an Auto-x tune bringing the boost down to 9# and a road racing tune at 12#, and a drag tune that can be transfered running at 15# AND race gas. The car should be bullet proof! ....hopefully. I dont know the brand of some of the forged parts, but they were recommended by the guy that has almost the same setup. Forged pistons were deemed unnecessary for this application. What are we forgetting?

well everything is coming together very nicely. I finally had some time this week to get down to the shop and check out the progress. We were supposed to have everything ready for a tuning tomorrow, but it looks like it will for sure be delayed a week, because our manifold is not back yet from the coater. Still a few things to do to the engine: relocation of the oil filter so its not stuck between the hot turbo and exhaust manifold, a few random nuts and bolts, but other than that its really just waiting for the manifold. The engine will be put back togeather with the stock injectors, until the engine is tested, then the 1000cc's will be put on and it will be trailerd over to the tuner. All the stuff for the hondata is installed and ready to go. Once the motor is back in, they will do some custom heat shielding around the fusebox and other wire harnesses. I CANT WAIT! Its a solid build and should really move quickly once the manifold is back. Here are a few quick pictures I snapped with the phone. Oh, and they are working on a miata with a z06 engine as well, I took pics, but somehow they got corrupt. I will take more next time im down there.

RIP- The old block

Sad Engine Bay

I still crack up looking at this starter
